Prison, school buses collide in Galveston, 8 hurt

GALVESTON, TX Police say the wreck happened Wednesday morning at an intersection in Galveston.

A school bus hauling 16 students to the Alamo campus was struck by a Texas Department of Criminal Justice bus.

Capt. Jeff Heyse says eight students, complaining of head, neck and back pain, were taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch's John Sealy Hospital, as a precaution.

Police say 14 inmates were removed from the prison bus and put into a TDCJ van. Inmates requiring medical attention are sometimes treated at UTMB.

A school district spokesman says the students range in age from 7 to 15.
