Man, 69, killed during violent home invasion
ANGLETON, TX
It happened around 10pm when police say three masked men walked up to Guadalupe Garcia's home on West Rogers near South Erskine in Angleton.
One of the suspects knocked on the front door and family members say there was some kind of argument. Garcia's nephew hit one of the suspects over the head with a hammer. A fight resulted which ultimately ended with one of the suspects pulling out a pistol and shooting Garcia in the chest. He was transported to Danbury Medical Center where he later died.
The suspects took off from the crime scene on foot. All three men are still at large. Authorities don't have specific descriptions on the suspects other than they were wearing bandanas.
Friends describe Garcia as a loving, caring member of the community. He is retired from a tractor mowing company and he volunteered at his church. They can't understand why Garcia was targeted or why he was killed.
'We were in the big house watching a movie and we heard a bang, and that's when we came running out and he was kneeled down. We got a towel and put it on his chest. He was shot in the chest," said Julie Porter, a family friend .
"They're a bunch of sorry people. That man was always good. He never hurt nobody. He's always helping people and I just don't understand why they did something like this," said Burton Brown, Garcia's friend.
Angleton police said Tuesday afternoon they have detained three people for questioning. However, no arrests have been made.
As for a motive, that is still unclear. Authorities say the suspects were possibly after money, perhaps trying to rob the victim.
