Bicyclist killed while trying to cross Gulf Freeway

HOUSTON

The accident happened at 6900 Gulf Freeway about 12:25am Monday. Police say the victim attempted to cross the Gulf Freeway on his bicycle when he struck the left passenger side of a white Dodge 3500 pickup truck. The victim was knocked off the bicycle and was then struck by a white Ford Explorer. Houston police say the man was likely drunk as he crossed the freeway with his bicycle.

A witness who saw the accident followed the Explorer until the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver of the Dodge was not injured in this incident.

The male victim, in his late 20s to early 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver of the Explorer is described only as a Hispanic male who is 25 years of age.
