HOUSTON --Two Houston city councilmembers want to exempt some people from the city's impending drainage fee. Under the ordinance passed by voters last year, property owners are taxed and then the money is used to improve the city's drainage and sewer system. Councilmembers C.O. Bradford and Al Hoang have released an amendment to exempt schools and religious organizations from that tax.
Hoang says he and Bradford don't want to add to what are already tough economic times. Specifics of the fee are still being ironed out by the city.
