Man charged with driving with wife on hood of van

MANTECA, CA

During a court appearance Thursday, Christopher Carroll admitted guilt, but the Contra Costa Times reports that San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Ronald Northup refused the plea and ordered him to appear next week for further arraignment. Meanwhile, the 36-year Carroll is being held without bail.

Authorities say that following an argument with his wife Saturday, he drove from Manteca to Pleasanton at speeds up to 100 mph with the woman clinging to the wiper and a side mirror. Police say she had been trying to stop him from driving away from their home.

He eventually slowed down and she was able to get off. The woman was treated for hypothermia. Her name has not been released.
