Two-alarm fire injures 1, damages apartment complex

HOUSTON

It started around 7:30pm at the Oaks of Cypress station complex on Cypress Station near FM 1960 in Ponderosa. That resident was taken to a hospital in northwest Houston for what authorities say was an asthmatic attack.

Firefighters say the complex was built in the 1970's before codes were in place about fire hydrants so the nearest hydrant was about 600 feet away.

"After they got water, they started trying to put it out but i don't think it should have turned out this bad," said resident Terri Walter.

The chief says he has talked to the water district and hydrants are planned to be put inside the complex in the next year. Firefighters are still trying to figure out what sparked the fire.
