Police believe they've solved a burglary case from more than a year ago, thanks to DNA evidence left behind at the scene of the crime. Germoine Khalid Shakir, 40, is charged with burglary of a building for the October 2009 crime at a grocery store at 7222 Scott Street. An HPD officer investigating was able to obtain blood evidence from where the suspect is believed to have made entry. That blood evidence was submitted for analysis, and in January, a match to Shakir was made.

Shakir was already in prison for a separate burglary of a business in April 2010. That business was also located in the same area of southeast Houston near the burglary case on Scott Street.

On February 14, 2011, after serving his time for the April burglary, Shakir was transferred from TDC to the Harris County Jail to face charges in the October 2009 incident.
