A Southeast Texas jury has ordered 50 years in prison for a former girls softball coach convicted of sexually abusing a teenage player.

The penalty was decided Friday in Beaumont for 49-year-old Louis Bowden Matthews Jr. He was convicted Thursday of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Prosecutors say the girl was 13 when the more two dozen sexual encounters began in 2008.

Matthews, who's 5 feet 9 inches tall and divorced, denied the allegations. Matthews testified that he had high blood pressure, weighed as much as 340 pounds and physically could not have had relations with the girl.

She testified Matthews promised to marry her when she turned 18.

He has a daughter who's about the same age as the victim.
