Boy, 12, killed crossing street on bike in NW Harris Co.

Deputies say the truck driver wasn't speeding or impaired and no charges are expected

A 12-year-old was killed when he was hit by a truck while trying to cross a road on his bicycle in northwest Harris County last night. It happened on Clay Road near Kinloch around 8pm. Police say Ruben Martinez-Cervantes was driving a 2001 brown Dodge Ram truck eastbound in the left lane of the 16700 block of Clay Road. At the same time the boy was riding a bicycle with two other friends.

Witnesses stated the boy rode through the ditch on the south side of the road then entered the roadway in front of the Dodge truck. Martinez-Cervantes stated when he saw the boy on the bike in the road, he hit his brakes and swerved to the left. Martinez-Cervantes struck the boy with the front center of the truck. The boy was thrown off the bike he landed in the left westbound lane on Clay Road.

The 12 year old died on the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
