Galveston to host job fair on Wednesday

GALVESTON, TX

Galveston's 6th Annual Oceans of Opportunities Job Fair is scheduled for 9am-2pm Wednesday. The free event will be held at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd.

The event, which is free for both employers and job seekers, is a collaboration between U.S. Congressman Ron Paul and the Galveston community.

"Galveston County has an unemployment rate of 9.2 percent and the Gulf Coast Region is at 8.3 percent," Paul said in a prepared statement. "Our goal is to help bridge the gap and bring unemployment down."

In 2010, more than 70 employers and over 1,400 job seekers participated in the annual job fair. Health care, service, administration and several other fields were represented from companies in the greater Houston area, Galveston, and beyond.

Employers interested in participating at this year's fair must register at www.wrksolutions.com/oceans.html.

Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring polished copies of their resume as some employers will be performing on-the-spot interviews. Workforce Solutions also will be on hand to provide resume assistance and helpful hints for job seekers.

The Oceans of Opportunities Job Fair is organized jointly by Congressman Ron Paul, the City of Galveston, the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, the Galveston Economic Development Partnership, UTMB and Workforce Solutions.
