Cortez is accused of giving birth to a baby girl and then going to the hospital claiming that she had a miscarriage. Police found the baby's body in a plastic bag in a closet at the mother's home.
The infant had a pair of women's underwear wrapped around her neck. An autopsy showed the baby died of asphyxiation.
Cortez, we're told, is here illegally from El Salvador. She was about 24 years old when this happened. She is now 27. Her case has been reset for next Tuesday in the 209th District Court.
