Deputies: Bank robbery ends with chase, crash

SPRING, TX According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, a witness called 911 to report that a masked man went into the Compass Bank at 4825 Research Forest Drive and left in a vehicle parked nearby.

Deputies spotted the vehicle on Research Forest Drive and tried to pull the driver over. The driver didn't comply and the pursuit was on.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as Gabriel Cabello, 39, of Dallas drove erratically and even drove into oncoming traffic on Research Forest Drive.

Investigators say Cabello drove his vehicle toward an on-coming deputy and just before a collision, turned his vehicle. To try to prevent an escape, the deputy reportedly turned into Cabello's vehicle to disable it. Cabello had to be removed from his car by sheriff's deputies.

Deputy Kenneth Wakefield was slightly in the collision and Deputy Todd McCoy, who investigators say was nearby and assisted, cut his hand on broken glass while arresting Cabello.

Investigators say Cabello had entered the bank with a gun in each hand and demanded money from a teller and a customer. He had left with an undisclosed amount of money. The money, weapons and mask were recovered in the getaway vehicle.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office say Cabello could be responsible for other robberies both in and out of Montgomery County.
