Deputy crashes after being shot at during chase

HOUSTON

Authorities say it all started when the deputy tried to pull over a vehicle in Meyerland on Beechnut near the West Loop. That sparked a chase that ended on Holly in Bellaire.

"At that point the vehicle came to a sudden stop. The deputy took action to avoid a gun battle or as he believed at the time what the suspects were going to do. He struck a tree in crossing the median," said District Chief J.J. Laine of the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office. "The other vehicle that was involved in this fled the scene. We are still looking for that vehicle at this time."

The vehicle is described as a dark gray or silver Ford Taurus type vehicle with its back window shot out. You are asked to call the Bellaire Police Department or Precinct 5 Constables.

Laine said the deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and was treated and released.
