Woman, boyfriend shot in City of South Houston

SOUTH HOUSTON, TX They were attacked around 5:30am off Washington near Austin in the City of South Houston. Authorities identified the shooting victims as Crystal Olvera, 22, and her boyfriend George Segura, 20.

They had been out for the night and had just dropped off a couple of friends. Authorities say the couple was sitting in their minivan in the driveway when a male in a hooded shirt approached the vehicle, pulled out a weapon and opened fire.

Segura was struck once in the head and Olvera was shot in the arm. The suspect fled.

Segura was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he's listed in critical condition. Olvera was taken to Southeast Memorial Hospital, where she was listed as stable.

"It doesn't appear to be a robbery," said Chief Herbert Gilbert with the South Houston Police Department. "There was nothing stolen. There was no indication of a robbery at all. She's not even sure of any words that were even actually said at the time."

South Houston Police originally said Rodrigo Eliud Olvera, Crystal Olvera's ex-husband, was a person of interest. However, Monday morning, police told us he's no longer a person of interest in the case and is not considered a suspect.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are being asked to call the South Houston Police Department at 713-944-1910.
