Trial for polygamist leader Jeffs postponed again

SAN ANGELO, TX Jeffs appeared Monday in a West Texas courtroom with a new lawyer who described the reams of evidence in the case as too voluminous to prepare a defense anytime soon. The 55-year-old Jeffs has hired prominent Fort Worth attorney Jeff Kearney.

Jeffs had been scheduled to stand trial in February on charges of aggravated sexual assault. A judge rescheduled the trial to July, but it could be pushed back even later.

Jeffs is the ecclesiastical head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Prosecutors say Jeffs had sex with two children at the Yearning for Zion ranch in Eldorado that state authorities raided in 2008.
