Game room manager fatally shot

HOUSTON It happened at the Clover game room about 11:30pm off South Mason near Provincial. Authorities identified the victim as the game room manager, 34-year-old Ly Dinh Pham.

Sheriff's deputies believe the robbers were about to enter the business when the manager confronted them at the door. The manager had a weapon but so did those robbers.

"No money that we know of, we don't think they made entry," said Sgt. Felipe Rivera with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "They were stopped at the door. They were attempting to make entry. That's where the confrontation took place."

Investigators say through their conversations with patrons they have determined it is an illegal game room with about 80 8-liner machines. Authorities say have shut down this location as a game room in recent years, at least once before. They were looking to do so again but hadn't had a chance as of yet.

A nearby business owner talked about the incident.

"It's a pretty nice neighborhood. I've had this business for a year and half now and I haven't seen any problems in the store or anything like that," said James Watson from the Bomdiggidy Smoke Shop. "I was really surprised this morning when I woke up and heard the news that something happened here last night."
