Jailer receives probation for punching inmate

FT. WORTH, TX The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday that Maj. Don Curtis Taylor asked a judge to sentence him to deferred adjudication. That would have left him him without the felony conviction that will end his 26-year military career.

But state District Judge Ruben Gonzales said Taylor's action in May 2009 was at odds with his many military decorations.

Gonzales sentenced Taylor, 47, to a year in jail for official oppression, but put him on two years' probation. That is the same sentence he assessed the other jailer, Tariq Salahuddin, 32, in February. Both resigned as jailers.
