Driver killed in early morning wreck in NW Harris County

A man was killed early this morning in a single-car accident in northwest Harris County. It happened shortly after 1am. According to deputies, the driver of a black Mercedes was traveling northbound in the 11600 block of Highway 249, when the car left the road and slammed into a metal pole.

The car broke into three pieces, say deputies, and the driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told authorities she saw the car driving at a high rate of speed when it crashed.

The crash remains under investigation. The identity of the driver has not been released.
