Food bank receives huge donation from ABC13 food drive

HOUSTON Eyewitness News Anchor Sharron Melton served as mistress of ceremonies for the event this morning outside Minute Maid Park. The Houston Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association donated more than one million pounds of fresh produce to the food bank.

The food is badly needed this year due to a higher demand from hungry families.

"This comes at such an important time. That actual demand from people who are hungry up 50 percent versus a year ago. People are hungry, one million point 25 pounds, really a big donation, we appreciate it so much," said Scott McClelland, Chairman of HEB.

Our Share Your Holidays food drive also collected 622,881 pounds of non perishable food for the food bank.
