Man allegedly steals DPS patrol car to evade arrest

HOUSTON

DPS officers were serving a warrant on Alberto Gabino at a home in the 1300 block of First Street when the incident happened.

Officers cuffed Gabino and put him in the front passenger seat of an unmarked DPS vehicle and put his seatbelt on. However, Gabino still managed to remove the seatbelt, move behind the wheel and drive off.

Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned about two blocks away.

Gabino, who's faced several drug charges, is still on the run.
