The 17-year-old grandson of a woman found dead in her Conroe residence has been arrested in connection with her murder. Conroe police say they were called to a home on London Green in the Windsor Lakes subdivision around 10am Monday after a co-worker had found the victim unresponsive. Officers located the woman and observed signs of what appeared to be blunt force trauma. The woman was identified as 68-year-old Vera Martha Starkey.

The investigation led to a grandson of the victim, Brock Andrew Starkey, 17, who was the last person known to be with the victim. According to family members, Brock hadn't been seen for a couple of days. Investigators issued a nationwide missing person broadcast regarding Brock, including a possible vehicle description, to law enforcement agencies.

Later Monday afternoon, Conroe police received information that a DPS trooper stopped Brock east of El Paso for a traffic violation. He was driving the vehicle described in the broadcast. The trooper detained him for further investigation.

An arrest warrant was issued for Brock Starkey for the charge of first degree murder. He was arrested and taken to the Hudspeth County Jail with a $500,000 bond.

Conroe police are making arrangements to return Brock Starkey to Montgomery County. They say the investigation is ongoing.
