Man's body found near wreckage on Highway 288

HOUSTON Officers were called to the scene on the South Freeway near Reed around 11:30pm. When they showed up, they found a man's body near the wreckage. Witnesses say two other men were at the scene, but left before authorities arrived.

Police say the 48-year-old victim was driving a tan Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on the South Freeway service road when he failed to stay in a single lane. The Chevrolet then drove on uneven grass and rolled over. The driver was ejected and died at the scene.

His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The investigation is continuing.
