Children make gruesome discovery in N. Houston

Houston police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found by some children in north Houston. Children discovered the woman's body Sunday night in a grassy area near a bayou off of Imperial Valley near Goodson. Investigators don't believe she was killed somewhere else and then dumped at the location. They believe it may have happened out in the area. She was found nude from the waist down and she'd been badly beaten.

Investigators describe the woman as a white or Hispanic female believed to be in her 30s or 40s, with red hair. She described as short with a slight build and was wearing a white/floral print t-shirt and faded torn blue jeans.

It's unclear if the victim had been sexually assaulted. Authorities say they have not had any other similar cases in the area. Investigators will be back at the scene to talk to nearby residents.

Investigators say she died of apparent blunt trauma to the face and head. Authorities say underwear that may be that of the woman whose body was found has been located about a block away.

The body has been taken the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
