Several people are looking for a new place to live after a fire ripped through their homes last night. The three-alarm blaze broke out around 7pm inside an apartment complex on 75th Street at Capitol. Despite a quick response, fire crews were unable to save the building.

Witnesses described seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof. Residents say the firefighters' efforts were hampered because of lack of water pressure from a nearby hydrant. Crews were forced to use another water source further away before they were able to get the fire out.

Residents say the whole thing was frightening.

"We heard a fire and everybody said, 'Fire' and 'Everybody get out,'" said fire victim Jessica Whately. "Some of us tried to grab things and some of us didn't. I just grabbed my kids and moved my car this way and that's all I could do."

Everyone made it out OK. About 4 to 5 units were destroyed, several others were badly damaged.

There is no word yet on what caused the flames.
