Stipeche beats Cruz in HISD runoff election

HOUSTON Stipeche beat Judith Cruz by just 44 votes. Only about 2,000 people cast ballots in yesterday's runoff. HISD held its own election since no other Harris County races had a runoff.

Stipeche will replace Diana Davila, who resigned her position as District VIII trustee. She is expected to be sworn in to the position next Thursday evening.

District VIII includes parts of Rice Military, Montrose, Midtown, the Heights and the East End.
