Man charged in fiery wreck that killed three

HOUSTON Jose Marvin Sarmientos is charged with two counts of accident involving injury or death. Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley said Sarmientos was arrested Monday night about 6:30pm at his apartment in Webster.

Authorities said Sarmientos was driving a pickup truck with three passengers early Sunday morning after leaving a nightclub when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a concrete divider and crossed over multiple lanes. The pickup truck then rolled over into the tree line and caught fire.

Police say Sarmientos kicked out the window and fled the scene. He evaded arrest for over six hours until he was apprehended near Bay Area Blvd and I-45 after a tip call.

Sisters Maria Castillo, 18, and Mayra Castillo, 22, were killed in the accident. Marvin Garcia also died in the fiery crash. A candlelight vigil was held for the sisters Monday night at their home.

Sarmientos, 20, is still in Webster City Jail and is due in Harris County court on Wednesday.
