Pedestrian killed while trying to cross Highway 6

Authorities say a man was attempting to cross a busy highway and was struck by several vehicles. It happened after 6am on Highway 6 and Piping Rock. The driver of a rental truck saw the man at the last second and swerved to avoid him, but a Toyota Highlander behind the truck struck him. Several other vehicles in the southbound lanes ran over the victim.

The 55-year-old victim died at the scene. His name has not been released yet, pending notification of relatives.

A police investigation is underway. According to police reports, the pedestrian was at fault for not crossing the road at the crosswalk.

All traffic was being diverted from the area, but the road has since re-opened.
