Man crashes SUV through gate at BASF plant

FREEPORT, TX According to BASF official Cindy Suggs, a man driving a white SUV crashed through the contractor gate at the BASF plant on Copper Rd. shortly before noon Tuesday. The suspect led security officers through the plant complex reaching speeds of approximately 80 miles per hour.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Department said witnesses could hear the subject yelling from the vehicle and, from some accounts, was yelling something to the effect of "We're all gonna die." The pursuit continued through the complex and back to the original point of entry to the complex when the SUV crashed into an 18 wheeler that was attempting to cross the roadway.

Suggs said they've not sure why the suspect crashed through the gate and that he did not appear to be a current or former employee.

The suspect operating the SUV suffered severe injuries and was taken to Memorial Herman Hospital by LifeFlight. The suspect's name is being withheld at this time pending notification.

The operator of the semi was transported to Brazosport Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
