HISD to hold meetings on special education program

HOUSTON During the meetings, the public's input will be gathered on a series of questions which have been developed by the TEA to gather information on the effective operation and performance of special education programs throughout the State. The questions include:

  • One purpose of the Individuals with Disabilities with Education Act or IDEA is to strengthen the role of parents and ensure family participation in the education of their children. Within the context of the Houston Independent School District, how are parents involved in the educational process for their children?

  • The IDEA establishes qualifications and ongoing training requirements related to all educational staff members who provide instructional and related services to students with disabilities. In what ways does the Houston Independent School District ensure that all staff members serving students with disabilities are certified, knowledgeable, and skilled in their roles?

  • An effective school program has supports in place to meet the needs of all students. What are the options available in the Houston Independent School District to support the needs of struggling students?

  • The goal of education is to prepare students to live productive, independent adult lives. In what ways does the Houston Independent School District ensure that students with disabilities are prepared to live as productive adults after leaving school?
  • Below is list of meeting dates and locations. For additional information about location, registration, or general questions about the public meeting, or if you need special accommodations, please contact the HISD Office of Special Education Services at 713-556-7025.
