Deputy rescues man from burning apartment

HOUSTON The fire started around 10pm at the building on West Montgomery near West Gulf Bank. Firefighters say a family of three adults was inside when the fire started on the second floor. Two people made it out okay but a third person became trapped. A Harris County deputy was the first on the scene and pulled the man from the flames.

"Sheriff's department had rescued the victim in the apartment before our arrival," said Chief Wesley Cole with the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department. "At this time the fire is extinguished and it is being investigated."

The man was taken to the hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. He was listed in critical condition. There is no word yet on what may have sparked the flames.
