Deputies to check on sex offenders on Halloween

HOUSTON Sex offenders who are on probation or parole are not allowed to turn on their front porch lights or put up Halloween decorations.

Deputies drove to the homes of those offenders to make sure they were following the rules.

"They're trying to entice them to come in and get candy," said Sgt. Laura Covington with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "So we don't want those sex offenders to have those decorations up to lure those kids there."

An offender in violation of The Halloween restrictions could have his or her probation or parole revoked.

Authorities say children should always trick or treat under adult supervision.
