Free holiday fun abounds for Halloween weekend

HOUSTON Jumpstart Halloween tonight at the Miller Outdoor Theatre with a family friendly costume contest and the popular animated film "Monsters Versus Aliens." The event starts at 6:30pm. Then on Sunday, Halloween night, enjoy the 1931 classic horror film "Dracula." The movie starts at 7pm.

Don't miss Houston's third annual citywide costume contest and Halloween celebration at Discovery Green on Saturday, October 30 from 6pm to 10pm. The costume contest starts at 6:30pm. There will be prize categories for all ages plus a costume contest for dogs. DJ music and dancing begins at 8:30pm as well as the feature presentation movie "Beetlejuice" on the scary big screen. Discovery Green is located downtown at 1500 McKinney.

It's Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead festival presented by Meca Saturday, October 30, from 11am to 7pm and Sunday, October 31 from 11am to 6pm. Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Latin American holiday that honors and celebrates the lives of family and friends who have passed. There will be music, dance and theater. The festival will be at 1900 Kane near downtown.

For those in the in the Galveston area, check out Moody Gardens on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm for a free Halloween celebration. There will be a costume contest for the kids, trick or treating and other activities.

TGI Fridays is celebrating Halloween with free food! Tonight and tomorrow it's a free appetizer for anyone wearing a costume. Then Sunday it's all about the kids. Kids eat free off the kids menu when dressed in a costume and an adult meal is purchased.
