Bond set for deputy accused of bribery

HOUSTON George Wesley Ellington has a bond of $50,000 and the judge ordered him to live with his parents. A federal indictment says Ellington took a pair of $500 bribes to provide protection for an accused drug dealer and allow him access to the law enforcement computer records.

Ellington joined the Harris County Sheriff's Office in October 1997. He is a deputy assigned to the patrol bureau. The sheriff's office suspended Ellington indefinitely.

Each of the two charges against Ellington carries a maximum penalty, upon conviction, of 20 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
