Galveston smoking ordinance leaves some people confused

Galveston's new smoking ban has created a patchwork of smoking and non-smoking businesses on the island. Galveston passed an ordinance banning indoor smoking in January. The city later amended the rule to allow smoking inside private clubs and businesses willing to meet the requirements to become adult venues.

Galveston officials say the new rules are a compromise

"We had people come in who fall on one side or the other," said city of Galveston Spokesperson Alicia Cahill. "This council was trying to allow for business owners to make a decision."

Many people find the new rules confusing, and Galveston officials do not expect the issue to go away.
