Man charged in death of his grandfather

BAYTOWN, TX Daniel Brian Atkins was charged Wednesday with capital murder. The body of his grandfather, 75-year-old Franklin McCown, was found inside his home in the 1300 block of Cedar Bayou Rd on September 7. McCown had been stabbed numerous times and evidence indicated he had been dead for about a week.

After an investigation, Atkins, spoke with detectives and provided a confession. Detectives say Atkins said he went to McCown's residence to steal a large amount of money, but it turned out that the McCown, was home at the time. Atkins then stabbed his grandfather multiple times.

Atkins, 25, is being held without bond.
