Teen arrested in park rape case

HOUSTON Around 7:45pm Sunday, a woman was walking in White Oak Park near I-10 when a man on a bicycle attacked her, pulled her into some trees and raped her. Police say he told the victim he had a knife and would kill her if she screamed. After the assault the woman was forced to call her family members and the man demanded money for her release.

Family members called police. As officers searched the park, they say the woman ran out of the trees and brush screaming for help. Officers searched the area for the suspect, but he managed to flee the scene on foot.

The woman was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. No other information on her injuries is available.

A police investigation led to a person of interest later identified as Leonell Antonio Murillo. Murillo was asked to come in to talk to investigators about the incident and police say he subsequently confessed to his involvement in the case.

Murillo, 19, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Bail has been set at $40,000.

Investigators are asking any other possible victims to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
