Mother, boyfriend charged with injuring 18-month-old son

HOUSTON Shawntee Moore, 30, was charged with injury to a child by omission. Her boyfriend, Walter Warner, 36, was charged with injury to a child.

According to court documents, Warner is accused of kicking the boy and striking him with his hand and with an unknown object on Monday, September 6 at a residence in southeast Houston. Warner was watching the boy while Moore attended classes at Houston Community College.

Court documents state the boy suffered broken ribs, liver lacerations, a swollen leg and genitals as well as a bruise underneath his neck, but Moore did not take him to the hospital for treatment until September 10 because she said she couldn't take him until she got out of class on Friday.

A medical expert examined the boy and said that his multiple serious injuries were caused by physical abuse by an adult.

Moore is being held on $20,000 bond.

Warner is being held without bond. He was convicted on a felony theft charge back in 1989 and assault on a public servant in 1998.
