Austin officer kills burglary suspect, 16

AUSTIN, TX Police say that hours later a second suspect, who's 15, surrendered at the insistence of his father.

Chief Art Acevedo says an officer responding to a burglary call at a Big Lots store shortly before 6 a.m. Friday was fired upon by a older suspect, then returned fire. Acevedo says the teen who was killed had a revolver. The officer was not hurt.

Acevedo says the younger suspect's father later called police to say his son wanted to give up.

Acevedo says a patrol car camera captured the shooting and it shows the incident happened as an officer had reported. The officer has been put on administrative leave pending further review.
