A man was killed when his car slammed into a median in southwest Houston overnight. It happened around 11pm on Kirby near San Felipe. Witnesses say the driver sped up to beat a red light and hit the median before skidding and slamming into a tree. The male victim, 35, was ejected from the car and taken to the hospital where he later died.

Authorities determined the victim was not wearing a seat belt. It is believed alcohol was a factor in the accident. The investigation is continuing.

Neighbors say the lighting is bad at the intersection and that if you don't know where the lane is, you don't notice it ends.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.
