Missing woman found dead in SW Houston

Police have a lot of unanswered questions in the murder of a woman in southwest Houston. Her body was found overnight at the Sandpiper apartments. Officers say the woman lived at the complex, but her body was found in a different unit. Just a few blocks from where her body was found, Saida Reyes' missing persons flyer remains posted. Just days after her family last saw her, this is not the way they hoped it would end.

Her father said, "My heart has a big hole in it. Somebody is crazy, man, somebody crazy."

Investigators say Reyes' mother discovered the body inside apartment 167, a unit in the same complex where Reyes lived, but one that was leased to someone else. Investigators are not releasing details about how Reyes was killed or who leased the apartment.

Reyes' father, who asked not to be identified, hasn't gotten many answers either.

While the motive for the murder is unclear, we have learned it's not the first violent crime at the apartment complex. Using the Eyewitness News exclusive Crime Tracker, we uncovered 12 crimes this year through May. They include two robberies, one aggravated assault, four assaults and five other crimes.

Reyes' murder only fuels the fear. A neighbor worries about women walking without being aware of their surroundings.

If you have any information on this murder, call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
