Child visiting Houston drowns in motel pool

HOUSTON Kayla Zenani Giles and some family members were visiting from Chicago, Il. when the incident happened. They had checked into the Baymont Inn and Suiters Motel in the 11000 block of the Northwest Freeway on Thursday.

On Friday, an adult cousin took her children and Giles to the swimming pool, where Kayla made her way to the middle of it and went underwater because she couldn't reach the bottom. None of the family members knew how to swim.

A friend of Giles' mother and another man staying at the hotel rescued her from the pool and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. She was transported to Texas Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed at this time, but an investigation is ongoing.
