What's free this weekend?

HOUSTON The 14th annual Grand Taiko Festival kicks off Friday night at the Miller Outdoor Theater. The event begins Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm. Witness spectacular Japanese Taiko drumming and dancing, including the most powerful drum in America. This is a free ticketed event, so if you want to attend Friday's performance, drop by the Miller Outdoor Theater an hour before the show starts. For Saturday's performance, you can pick up tickets starting at 10:30am.

If you love jazz, then you are going to love a jam packed weekend of music on the Kemah Boardwalk because it's the 13th annual Jazz Fest featuring musicians from all across the country. The all-weekend event kicks off Friday at 7pm with the John Patrick Quintet. Performances on Saturday and Sunday begin at 1pm.

Here's another free outdoor event. City councilmember James Rodriguez, along with Discovery Green, is hosting "District I Day." The event celebrates the arts and culture of Houston's District I. The celebration begins at 3pm Saturday at Discovery Green. There will be fun activities like free face painting, a paper airplane contest and a performance by Houston's own Baby Jay at 7:30pm. The family-friendly movie, 'Monsters vs. Aliens" will begin at dusk.

And if you are going to be at Discovery Green, there is going to be "Camp Rock" screening party. Radio Disney will be also be onsite to give away Blu-ray DVD combo packs, copies of "Camp Rock 2" and other prizes. The event is Saturday from 1pm until 3pm at the HPL Branch Express at Discovery Green.

And finally, drop by you area Whataburger for a free sweet treat this Sunday from noon until 4pm. Whataburger will be giving their dine-in customers a free four-ounce shake sample, your choice of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
