Three suspects charged in bank robbery

HOUSTON Joell Bell, 18, is charged with evading arrest and aggravated robbery. He is being held on $80,000 bond. Marcellus Burgin, 20, is charged with possession of a firearm, and Charun Jones, 17, is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. Jones is being held on $50,000.

About 12:45pm on September 10, authorities say an off-duty officer with Memorial Villages Police Department was traveling westbound on Highway 290 when he spotted a vehicle suspected of having been used in a robbery the day before.

The officer flagged down an HCSO unit which subsequently stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of a grocery store on Barker-Cypress in northwest Harris County. Deputies detained two suspects, but a third fled on foot.

Moments later, the third suspect, Bell, was seen riding in a pickup truck near the intersection of Dundee and Woodworth. When a deputy pulled the truck over on a traffic stop, Bell jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the yard of a nearby residence.

During the pursuit, the deputy feared for his life and fired his weapon, hitting the suspect. Bell was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released. He is now in the Harris County Jail.

The case is being investigated by the HCSO Homicide Unit and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
