Suspect arrested in officer-involved shooting

HOUSTON Jerome Goody, 23, is behind held at the Harris County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault of a peace officer.

Detectives say Goody was one of at least two suspects who exchanged gunfire with Deputy Mitchell Bettin during the robbery of a bank on Stuebner-Airline and Cypresswood shortly before 1:30pm Tuesday. A total of three suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later found ditched in a nearby neighborhood.

Bettin was shot in the hand and transported to Ben Taub Hosptial, where he is still being treated.

Goody was arrested at LBJ Hospital after seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. The two other alleged accomplices are still being sought. They've been described only as armed, masked men.

Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is customary in such incidents.
