High water on Highway 87, but road still passable

As expected, water has started to pool on a notoriously low spot on the Bolivar Peninsula. Highway 87 is known for flooding whenever a storm churns up the Gulf, especially at high tide. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office says Highway 87 is passable, but drivers may have to drive through water.

The same thing happened in June when strong winds stirred up by Hurricane Alex pushed the high tide on the highway.

So far, Brazoria County has reported no coastal flooding.
