Sex offender faces new child molestation charges
FRIENDSWOOD, TX
The Whitehall neighborhood pool in Friendswood is popular, but neighbors are wondering how the sex offender, who doesn't live in that subdivision, was able to get a key to the pool last week and allegedly assault the kids.
The pool is usually bustling with kids, and police say that's like what drew 35-year-old Michael Page Summers, a registered sex offender, to it. It's a pool without a lifeguard.
"There's not a lifeguard out there," said Paul Jacobs, who lives near the pool. "You pay your money and you come and go as you want."
Friendswood police say Summers borrowed the key from a friend and entered the pool. At some point, he allegedly began fondling two kids under the age of 7 in the water.
"He was sticking his hands inside the kids' swimsuits, which is what is alleged," Friendswood Police Chief Robert Wieners said.
"I grew up in this neighborhood," resident Wendy Turner said. "It's disturbing. It's very disturbing."
Turner says her daughter was in the pool that day and was scared off by Summers.
"(She) did tell me that he was very inappropriate verbally with her and he was staring at her," Turner said. "She was very uncomfortable; she left the pool."
Summers was arrested on Wednesday at his home in the 2300 block of Cobbler's Way in Heritage Park, which is in Brazoria County. Residents hope he never returns.
"I hope he spends a little time wherever he's going for a long time, just so he doesn't come back here," Jacobs said.
Summers is being held at the Galveston County Jail on two charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact and aggravated sexual assault of a child. His bond is at $500,000.
In 1996, Summers was convicted in Missouri on three counts of statutory sodomy. His victims were two girls, ages 8 and 4, and a 1-year-old boy. Police said he appears to have been compliant with his sex offender registration requirements and had accurately listed his residence.
