Community meets to discuss jump in crime

HOUSTON On Wednesday, they met to voice their concerns over a rise in criminal activity.

Just last week, a woman said a man broke into her apartment while she was at home with her three young children. She says the burglar demanded money, then pulled out a knife, and forced her into a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her.

Since then, rumors have swirled that the same robber and rapist may be tied to other sex crimes.

"We truly think that this guy's intent was burglary," said Lt. Mike Waterwall with HPD's Sex Crimes Unit. "He may be involved in other burglaries, but at the moment, we are not connecting him to any other sexual assaults."

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. The number is 713-222–8477.
