Big changes coming to Houston's housing department

HOUSTON James Noteware says hundreds of millions of dollars in new funds are coming to Houston for hurricane recovery and foreclosure remediation.

The department has been a source of scandal for more than a decade. This, after past federal housing funds had to be repaid because of misuse. Several angry residents say they are ready for a change.

"I'm tired of riding through the neighborhood, seeing businesses with blue tarp, seeing my neighbors with blue tarp and the city has the money," said Alana Hill with the Texas Organization Project. "I wanna know why it isn't being allocated in the neighborhood that it's supposed to be."

Just last week, the department laid off 29 employees. According to city officials, the layoffs were the result of the city's budget crunch.
