Suspected drunk driver arrested in pedestrian's death

HOUSTON Edward Cano, 35, faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter in the fatal traffic accident in the 7400 block of Cullen Boulevard about 12:30am Friday.

Police say Cano was driving a silver Toyota pickup truck northbound on Cullen when he swerved off the roadway, up onto a curb and then struck the victim. The male victim, in his 60s, transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Cano was not injured and was taken into custody at the scene.
