METRO fires wrecker driver after fatal crash

HOUSTON The accident happened Tuesday at Scott Street and the South Loop. Two passengers in the vehicle were transported to Ben Taub Hospital where one of them, a 64-year-old woman, went into cardiac arrest and died.

Gregory Clark, a 32-year METRO veteran, failed a Federal Transit Administration required drug and alcohol test following the accident. The wrecker was in service, but was not hauling a bus at the time.

"METRO is deeply saddened by yesterday's event and we will take whatever additional actions are needed," said METRO's Acting President and CEO George Greanias. "This incident is not indicative of METRO's safety-conscious workforce. We will not compromise when it comes to protecting our passengers and the public."

Criminal charges could be filed against Clark pending the outcome of the District Attorney's Office investigation.
